    Hello

I would like to purchase the limited edition (100) very very much. Long time Chris Foss fan, collected Panther paperbacks in the 1970’s in Canada.

Please keep me informed. I can pay for a copy ASAP if possible.

    Thanks so much

    Peter Jones

    Hi Peter
As soon as hear from the publisher when they are going to do the auction on Ebay for the 100 Limited edition prints I will post here. It’s all a bit of a mystery at the moment. Best wishes, Imogene

  3. JPN

Hi Imogene, I just look at your presentation of the 20 sketches on full screen with `Création du monde` from Vangelis, I didn’t land yet… Thank you!!! JP

  4. Imogene Post author

Hi Alex, nice to hear from you.
As soon as the publishers let me know the date of the auction for 100 Limited edition, I’ll make a new post and this will pop up on the Facebook Page too.
You might be able to reserve one of the 400 Special Editions through the Forbidden Planet shop.

  5. Jos Yule

I would be interested in either of the special editions.

So nice to see his work in a collection! I now regret selling at a garage sale the large format collection of his work – i think it was called “Science fiction art” – at the time i’m sure it was for something important, like playing video games at the arcade! 😉 Ah, youth.

    Thanks
    Jos

  6. Imogene Post author

Hi Jos, I think I’ve got that book, it’s quite tall and narrow, I’ll post a pic of it and I’ll post any news here and on Facebook as soon as hear from the publishers when they intend to release the Special Editions for sale. Re your barta of spaceships for space invaders – If our youth hadn’t been misspent, it’d have been a waste.

  7. JPN

I didn’t know there was a video with that peice(Creation du monde). Thanks for the link, I see Chris ships in each one of those clouds… groovy! :0)))

  8. Joseph Pearson

Hi I’d like to buy a copy of the 400 version so please keep me infomed of it’s release.

    Many thanks

    Joseph

  9. Algie Lane

Hello, Please keep me informed when the 100 copy edition is put on ebay. thx. Al

  10. Joseph Pearson

Thanks Imogene, I am hoping to get to Forbidden Planet tonight for my copy.

    Joseph

  11. Andrew Bean

Thanks to Chris for the signing last night…worth queuing for! A bit confused about the slipcase edition…saw people holding copies at the signing, but there were none for sale…shame, i would have preferred to get one of those rather than the regular.

  12. Imogene Post author

    Hi Andrew

Thanks for hanging in there in the queue and I’m sorry about the lack of stock of the Special Edition.

Apparently there were only 10 copies of the 400 Special Edition available at the shop and they sold out. Forbidden Planet should have more of the Special Edition of 400 in stock this week and online from next week. Which I realise doesn’t fix it for those who would have liked to have bought the Special Edition instead of the Standard Edition on the night.

  13. Andrew Bean

No problem…i’ll just have to get both! Wonderful book, by the way…..

  14. Imogene Post author

Keep one book for ‘best’ perhaps! And thanks, glad you like it.

  15. James Moore

    Hi Imogene,

Re: the special reserve edition of 100. Do you know if it will be a numbered edition and if so would it be possible to request a certain number?

    Regards,

    James

  16. Ralph

Do you know if any of the 400 edition will be on sale at Forbidden Planet stores other than London? (e.g. Manchester)

Still holding out for the 100 edition at the moment, but I fear that when they come up for sale, I’m going to miss my chance for whatever reason…

  17. Imogene Post author

    Hello Ralph

You will be able to buy online from Forbidden Planet hopefully by the end of this week (it’d be great if you use the FP affiliate link on the page!). Forbidden Planet can also arrange for the book to be delivered to any UK Forbidden Planet shop if you prefer. I am just waiting to hear when the book is going to be in the shop and online and will post here as soon as I hear anything.

At the moment the 100 edition is going to be sold via an Ebay shop. I believe this will be around the release date for the US of the standard edition, which at the moment is 6th September 2011, with a ‘buy now’ price £125. Although all of this might change, it depends on what the publishers decide, but I will post any news on the site as soon as I find out.

  18. Imogene Post author

Hi James, the 100 are numbered. As the 100 edition is going to be auctioned on Ebay there will not be a way to reserve a particular number, it will be down to who bids the most. Unless the publisher creates this option on the Ebay shop. If I hear anything I will post here.

  19. Jeff

    Hi, Imogene,

Many congrats on the book – a proper retrospective volume has been long overdue.

Sent an email about this, but I guess it must have got overlooked in the melee. No worries… Couple of things I was wondering: 1) Any plans for something (signing, what have you) to tie in with the book right here in Guernsey? 2) If so (or even if not, actually), is there any likelihood of copies of the 400 edition finding their way into Chris’s hands for distribution locally, say via the gallery for instance? I’d be more than happy to put my money directly in the great man’s hand, so to speak, if that option is available.

    Cheers.

  20. Imogene Post author

    Hi Jeff

Thanks so much, Rian did an amazing job on the design and was tenacious in his researching and artworking of the many long lost and often forgotten (by Chris who sometimes didn’t recognise if it was one of his or not!).

There aren’t any plans for a signing in Guernsey, but if one of the book shops wanted to set something up with Titan the publishers it could be possible.

Unfortunately we don’t have any access beyond our one complimentary copy of the Special Edition. I’m waiting to hear from Titan when they will be releasing the Special Edition book for sale as soon as hear I’m going to email everyone immediately, around mid August possibly and I can include you in that email if you like?

  21. Jeff

Yep, you can include me on the email list for sure. Thanks, Imogene.

Research-wise, Hardware is certainly a vast improvement on 21st century Foss, which had all the hallmarks of being subject to the vagaries of memory. Strange what you say about Chris failing to recognise his own stuff, as I’ve always found his style virtually unmistakeable, particularly when it comes to the SF works.

Does Chris actually spend much time in Guernsey these days? I know he was over here quite a bit around ten years ago (I popped up to see him in his workshop at the gallery a few times; he was working on the crab sculpture), but a lot can change in ten years…

Oh, and you can tell Chris that he’s a man of impeccable taste: Flook was a terrific strip!

  22. Imogene Post author

Glad you like the new book, I think some of the titles might have been made up by Chris for 21st Century Foss, I imagine there was a looming deadline with a desperate art director screaming down the phone to Chris ‘we need the titles now’.

The crab is still in progress, I think the aim is to animate it. I’ll def pass the message re Flook. And Chris spends a lot of time in Guernsey, he’s got a house and studio there, did you see the Guernsey museum has a couple of his paintings now?

  23. James Moore

Got to agree with Jeff! Chris surely has THE most distinctive style in SF art ever!

  24. Jeff T

I bought this book from Amazon as soon as I read it had been published.

It took me back to my Art School days in the 70s, when I was an avid reader of anything science fiction, and a good majority of the books I read had Chris Foss covers, which were always an inspiration.

I would love to bid for one of the 100 special edition books, so could you please keep me informed as to when it is going to be on ebay.

Many thanks for a great trip back in time.

  25. Imogene Post author

Hi Jeff, I’m glad you’ve got hold of the book, it seems to be in short supply. Although Forbidden Planet do have signed copies available. I think the 100 Special Edition are going to be sold on Ebay possibly in September to coincide with publication in the US, but we’re waiting to hear exactly when. The Special Edition should be out shorty, as soon as I hear on that I will email all interested parties and post on here too.

So glad the book has given you a nice trip back in time to your Art School days, I imagine art school in the 70’s must have been pretty wild! All best, Imogene

  26. Fred Leggett

For those waiting with baited breath (like me) for the 400 edition, Titan has FINALLY put it up on their storefront on Amazon. Price is $75, which is amazingly reasonable given the trade edition’s MSRP. I ordered one immediately.

I haven’t seen any movement yet on the 100 edition. I have a feeling it’ll be way beyond my purse if they’re auctioned off.

  27. JPN

Yes! I received my 400 edition witch is now a 500 edition, (got the 108) The pages with the thumbnails of all the covers by Chris is such a fun bonus for a collector. I tough the alternate cover would be a different duskjacket but it’s a different printed cover and the 4 images on the back are different too. It’s a great Foss year! JP

  28. Fred Leggett

Hey JPN, I received copy #107. I think Titan needs to publicize the special edition more. If you don’t know how, getting to the Titan storefront on Amazon can be rather difficult. There’s a direct link on here, but Titan’s own website goes to a Forbidden Planet page that doesn’t exist.

I love this book. The only thing I wish Titan would’ve provided was a dustjacket. I Brodart all my collectibles and putting a cover on a “naked” book is a royal PITA.

  29. Imogene Post author

I find it interesting you have consecutive numbers. A dust jacket would have been lovely, I’m guessing it’s all about the ubiquitous ‘tight margin’. Here’s the link to the Special Edition on US Amazon. Standby ‘the rest of the world’ for release date info on the Special Edition.

  30. Imogene Post author

    Hello Jeff
Still no news, each week rolls around and I’m expecting to hear from Titan regarding the release dates of the 400 and 100 Special Editions, perhaps by this weekend, fingers crossed! I will email + post once I get the news.

  31. Fred Leggett

For those on the “other” side of the Atlantic, Forbidden Planet is now soliciting the 400-edition. I think this should now make it possible for almost any non-U.S. resident to purchase the book. FP’s price is 60 pounds.

  32. Imogene Post author

Cheers, Fred, if people click on our ad for Forbidden Planet, we get some pennies from the transaction which is rather nice! All best, Imogene
