Hi Imogene, I never though I would be able to see all the drawings Chris did for that limited edition. Thank you so much for this posting. JP

  2. Joseph Pearson

Hi Imogene/JP I must be getting old because I only counted 98 and two of the drawing were duplicated – am I mistaken?

    Regards

    Joseph

    Hi Joseph
2 may not have been uploaded, perhaps, I’ll check. When you’ve time, could you send me a link to the 2 duplicates and I’ll take a look? All best, Imogene

Imogene, I notice everyone so far has put a bid in on the first book on the list, is there any reason for this, ie are the books numbered 1 to 100, in the order they are presented here, or does it make no difference, apart from art work preference?

    Many thanks,

    Jeff

  5. Imogene Post author

Hello Jeff, that’s a good question, I was wondering that myself, I’ll ask the marketing person in charge of this at Titan and get back to you here.

  6. Imogene Post author

    Hello Jeff

The books are numbered 1 to 100 but are not shown in sequence on the site. Books 1 to 2 have been acquired by Titan publishing owners Nick Landau and Vivian Cheung. The remaining numbers are therefore 3 – 100.

What you are actually bidding on is the artwork as it was deemed too complex to match certain artwork to certain numbered books.

The artwork will be matched to the book number in the order of which the auction bids are received. So if you place a winning bid before me you will receive the lower numbered book but it won’t be possible to know which number book you’re bidding on, just which artwork.

This also answers Joseph’s questions as to why there are only 98 books shown.

  7. Jeff T

Thanks very much for supplying that information Imogene, to be honest im not fussed what number the book is, but i do have a few preferences as far as artwork goes, so will definatly be putting a bid in and crossing my fingers.

    Kind regards,

    Jeff

  8. Imogene Post author

It’d be good to know which artwork/book you get, hope your bid is successful. All the best, Imogene

  9. Jeff T

If I have a successful bid tomorrow I’ll post the combination here for you.

    Regards,

    Jeff

    Just one more thought….

There is a 5 hour difference in auction end times between the first and last book, so if its a low number you want then makes sense to bid on the first book, which is what people seem to have done.

Personally I would rather bid on the book that has artwork that speaks to me and take whatever number comes my way, especially as the Number 1 book has already gone.

    Will keep you posted,

    Jeff

Hello Jeff, here’s what Titan have informed me.

‘the most practical way to allocate the numbers is that the person who pays the highest-amount winning bid will be sent number 3, the second highest-amount winning bid gets number 4 and so
    on.’

I think your point of bidding on the artwork which is most appealing to you, makes sense. Let me know how you get on!

Thanks Joseph, It’s Titan’s auction so they’re managing the Ebay account. I will forward Titan your links so they can look at them on Monday and thanks so much for spotting the error and letting me know.

  15. Imogene Post author

Thanks Jeff, much appreciated, I didn’t have the patience to go through the whole lot!

  16. Chris K

I must admit I was surprised to see all the books put onto EBay in one go. I’ve bid for one but many still don’t have any bids. What will happen to the unsold ones, will they be relisted over and over until they sell?

  17. Imogene Post author

Hello Chris, Yes I thought that, but Titan felt that people would like to be able to view all the artworks that are available. I’d imagine the unsold books would be re listed, but how and when hasn’t been decided. Titan may wait sometime or do it immediately, we are going to see how things go today and then talk about it on Monday, once I know I will post any news here.

  18. Chris K

Thanks for the reply Imogene. It was indeed nice to be able to preview all Chris’ artworks before choosing. Having bid for one at £140+, let’s hope any unsold copies aren’t relisted for bargain price 😉

  19. Imogene Post author

Hi Chris, you’re very welcome. I’d know Titan want to maximise any potential earnings from these books, so I don’t think there would a bargain price listings for these books. Best of luck with the auction, let me know how you get on.

  25. Imogene Post author

Hello Jeff, I don’t have access to the account, it’s Titan the publishers account as they own the books up for auction.
ForbiddenTitan144 – if you contact them through Ebay they should let you know.
There are two pages to the listing – yours might be on the last page.
Let me know how you get on.

  26. Imogene Post author

I tried to locate Solar Traveller,
    but having difficulty navigating Ebay
    best to speak to Titan.
    All best

  27. Imogene Post author

Hello Thibaut, I believe the publisher Titan are going to sell them via their own online shop around November. I will post any news regarding the sale as soon as I hear from Titan what they plan to do. Are you interested in purchasing a book?

  28. Thibaut

Yes interested ! i made a mistake thinking the 100 edition was sold out, i bought a 400 edition to Forbidden Planet… is it possible to see directly with Forbidden shop to change for the 100 edition ? if not i will take the 100 edition now ? is it possible by a phone call ? live in France but i can normally support an english conversation if needed, so…

  29. Imogene Post author

    Hello Thibaut
You might be able to get a refund from Forbidden Planet if you returned the book to them in sale condition, but I am not sure of their ‘terms and conditions’ of the sale and return of books, you would have to speak to Forbidden Planet. Also Forbidden Planet are not selling the 100 edition. The 100 edition is currently only available via the publisher Titan. I can enquire on your behalf if it would be possible for you to purchase one of the 100 edition in advance of it being available on their own online store if you like?

  30. Thibaut

” I can enquire on your behalf if it would be possible for you to purchase one of the 100 edition in advance of it being available on their own online store if you like?”

YES please Let me 5 min and i tell you the one i want. Thank you for your time Imogene.

  31. Imogene Post author

Hi Thibaut, have a look at the link on this page to Ebay auction and you’ll be able to see what’s left. I will have to find out from Titan if this is possible first. It may not be and you would then have to wait till the next online sale. Let me speak to Titan and find out if this is possible and I will get back to you.

  32. Imogene Post author

Hello Thibaut, I have just spoken to Titan. They will be selling the books online again shortly through their own website. I will let you know when the site is live so you can purchase your book. Best wishes, Imogene

  33. Thibaut

Thank you Imogene for your investigations ! if you can directly send the online day of selling by email…
    All the best,
    Thibaut

Hi Imogene, Two ships landed safe and sound in my mail box today. They are Fantastic!!! Thank you for these and the special care you put in wrapping them! JP

  39. Sublevel Studios

    HI Imogene,

Well, it landed this morning and it’s a work of art!

I won the ‘Waiting Cargoliners’ piece, that was the one that really summed up Chris’ work best for me, although, If I had the money I would have gone for a couple more!

Just gone through the book quickly and I know it’s going to be one of those books that I will revisit many, many times throughout my life, it’s a beauty, Rian did a sterling job (as always) and let Chris’s work do all the talking, and not get bogged down with elaborate layouts that might interfere with the subject.

Lastly, before I go and I’m trying not to sound gushing here, just wanted to say a big thank you to you, for answering my emails (!), to Rian (for constantly coming up with the goods and making me feel envious coz’ the guy’s a graphic genius) and to Chris, for helping me channel my energies into developing my artistic skills and for the many countless hours I spent as a child, teenager and adult pouring over his art and being inspired by the truly original designs.

As I have always said, you can’t teach imagination!

Thanks again, and all the very best!

    Mark

  42. Imogene Post author

It made perfect sense to me and I appreciate your enthusiasm; I’m really glad you’re enjoying the book and there’s no chance of the Hardware failing or the battery dying, all this modern technology and nothing beats thumbing through a book even when looking at visions of the future! All best, Imogene

  43. Jayson

I was about 8 years old when I stumbled upon the book, “21st Century Foss,” by chance in the shelves of a long since closed bookshop. I returned there several times before I convinced my mom to buy it for me. I remember making my way up a set of creaky wooden stairs to the second level where the art books were shelved, where I would flip though Chris’s images with excitement and wonder. I even remember the smell of the place. Tucked up there in the stacks and stacks of books I felt like I had found an archaeological treasure, but one from the future. The memories of discovering the book are mixed together with the countless hours I spent being inspired by his art for years to come. As otherworldly as his images are, they seem very real, very possible. And they have passed a test most things eventually fail. Many childhood memories of huge places and amazing things seem somewhat less huge and amazing when revisited as an adult, but when I opened the new book, “Hardware,” the images were as vivid and real as ever. The worlds pictured are so convincing, they really must exist somewhere. Thanks for sharing them, Chris!
